The River That Keeps Flowing

Rivers appear throughout Scripture as signs of life, renewal and God's sustaining presence.

The River That Keeps Flowing

Some images return again and again throughout Scripture.

The image of a river is one of them.

From the river flowing out of Eden to the river of life described in Revelation, water becomes a symbol of God's provision and presence. It nourishes what is dry. It brings movement where there is stillness. It reminds us that life is not something we create for ourselves but something we receive.

Sunlit river flowing through a forest landscape

As an artist, I am drawn to these recurring biblical images. They connect stories that are separated by centuries and yet belong to the same greater narrative.

A river is never merely a landscape element. It invites reflection. It asks where life begins and where it is leading.

Following the Current

When creating a painting, there are moments when the composition seems to find its own direction.

The process cannot be rushed.

Layers are added slowly. Colors are adjusted. Symbols emerge gradually. Much like a river carving its path through stone, meaning often develops through patience rather than force.

Detail of water reflecting golden evening light

This rhythm feels deeply connected to the way Scripture speaks. Important truths are often revealed over time. They unfold through stories, seasons and repeated encounters.

Art can participate in that same rhythm.

A painting does not demand immediate understanding. Instead, it invites the viewer to remain, to observe and to discover.

Living Water

Perhaps this is why the image of living water continues to resonate.

It reminds us that faith is not merely about remembering what once was. It is about remaining connected to a source that continues to give life.

Every river reflects light differently. Every bend reveals a new perspective.

Yet the water keeps flowing.
